Visto che il Lakota sta iniziando ad entrare in servizio nell’Esercito USA, ho deciso di realizzare questo profilo a colori raffigurante una delle sei eliambulanze UH-72A schierate dall’Air Ambulance Detachment del National Training Center, a Fort Irwin, nel Sud della California.

Si tratta dei primi Lakota entrati in servizio effettivo nell’US Army.

Un secondo distaccamento di sei elicotteri opera invece a supporto del Training and Doctrine Command, presso Fort Eustis, Virginia. Ulteriori 10 mezzi di questo tipo servono infine con il 5th Aviation Battalion, basato a Fort Polk, Louisiana, sede del Joint Readiness Training Center,

L’US Army ha emesso un requisito per 322 esemplari, con consegne da concludersi entro il 2016.

Il Lakota, assemblato a Columbus, nel Mississippi, e’ il primo elicottero di progettazione non americana ad entrare in servizio con l’US Army Aviation.

I piloti di Tomcats erano proprio dei cazzoni!

Questo F-14A (S/N 3-6020) e’ stato ripreso all’aeroporto Mehrabad di Teheran lo scorso 30 marzo. E’ la foto piu’ recente di un Tomcat con le insegne della Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) (نیروی هوایی ارتش جمهوری اسلامی ایران).

Secondo Acig.org, il 3-6020 fu il primo Tomcat a lanciare un AIM-54 Phoenix contro un MiG-25 iracheno. L’ingaggio, avvenuto il 15 Maggio 1981, porto’ al danneggiamento del Foxbat, che dovette fare ritorno alla base a tutta birra.
